Installing the Printer Software About the Installer Use the Installer to install the printer software on your system. The Installer copies the printer drivers (Serial and AppleTalk®) and background printing files to the correct locations in your System Folder. If the installer finds a file that has the same name as the one it is installing, it replaces that file with the most current version. When the Installer installs the printer software on your hard disk, it also increases the Finder memory allocation to 400K. If the Finder is locked, it would prevent the Installer from increasing the Finder memory. See your Macintosh System documentation for more detailed information on the Finder. Using the Easy Install The driver installer provides two options: Easy Install and Customize. Use the Easy Install option to install all of the printer software in the correct locations on your hard disk. To use the Easy option, follow these steps: 1. Start or Restart your computer while holding down the Shift key. This turns off any system extensions that might cause conflicts during the installation process. 2. Insert the Driver Installation disk and double-click the Installer icon Click the "Continue" button. 3. Read the licensing agreement and click "Accept" to continue or "Cancel" to quit the installation. 4. Make sure that the destination disk named on the Installer screen is the one on which you want to install the printer software. If the wrong hard disk is named, click the "Switch Disk" button until the correct hard disk name appears. 5. Click on the drop down menu in the upper left corner and make sure that "Easy Install" is selected. 6. Click the "Install" button to install the selected items. 7. The Installer may display a warning message, warning you to quit all applications before installation. Click the "Continue" button. This will automatically quit any currently running applications for you. When the installation process is complete, the Installer displays a message indicating the installation was successful. 8. Click the "Restart" button to restart your computer, or the "Quit" button, if you did not install onto the current system disk. Using the Customize Option Use the Customize option to install the combination of printer driver files and background printing resources you want to install. You can use this process to install just the AppleTalk version or just the Serial version of the printer driver. To use the Customize option, follow these steps: 1. Start or Restart your computer while holding down the Shift key. This turns off any system extensions that might cause conflicts during the installation process. 2. Insert the Driver Installation disk and double-click the Installer icon. Click the "Continue" button. 3. Read the licensing agreement and click "Accept" to continue or "Cancel" to quit the installation. 4.
